“Another great effort from this team” was how Greene County cross country coach Jeff Lamoureux described the Rams’ performance in the Saydel Cross County Invitational Oct. 6.
“We keep getting better each meet,” Lamoureux said. “I’m very happy with the second place finish by the boys. We finished ahead of some teams that have beat us in previous meets this year.”
Des Moines Christian won the meet with 17 points, followed by Greene County far back with 93 points. Other team scores were Grandview Christian 108, Perry 113, Ankeny Christian Academy 114, Central Decatur 146, Van Meter 147, and Saydel 178.
Noah Hinote finished in 13th place with a time of 18:14, 13 seconds better than his time two days earlier in Lake City. The next three Ram finishers all bettered their Tuesday times, with Ethan Frederick in 17th place in 18:43, Kolby Angell in 24th place in 19:01, and Gavyn Winters in 26th place in 19:07. Mylo Taute finished in 77th place in 22:47 and Jayden Koller finished 80th in 23:15.
“The girls keep on battling,” he continued. Autumn Stevens finished with a PR. We are battling some sickness and injuries so we’re really proud of the effort.”
The girls team finished in eighth place of eight teams. Olivia Shannon again led the rams with a 27th place finish and a time of 23:48. Stevens’ time of 24:12 earned her 38th place. Other finishes were Ava Minnehan, 52nd place in 26:00; Ava Jablonski 62nd, 27:14; and Leah McCormick, 69th, 29:56.
Van Meter won the meet with 29 points. Other team point totals were Des Moines Christian 43, Grandview Christian 80, Perry 143, West Central Valley 159, Saydel 161, Ankeny Christian Academy 174, and Greene County 177.
